Welcome to Liverpool Cares!

Liverpool Cares is a new community network of young professionals and older neighbours hanging out and helping one another in our rapidly changing city.

We do this because while Liverpool is one of the greatest places on earth – full of the most spirited people with the biggest hearts, home to some of the best music ever created, and full of solidarity and passion – it can also sometimes feel anonymous, lonely and isolating.

The Docks on the edge of the Mersey stand as a proud symbol of our rich history – but they are also a symbol of change: of people coming and going; of rapid development; and of how urban transformation can sometimes come quick and uneasy, leaving some people feeling left out or left behind.

Those Docks, like the rest of the city, have transformed over the past two decades. Liverpool One and the Baltic Triangle are now home and hearth to so many young people who find excitement in the vibrant buzz, but many of whom often crave the connection of community.

And for many older people, who have spent a lifetime in familiar neighbourhoods – from Anfield to Everton, Fairfield to Fazakerly, Croxteth to Chinatown – the change can feel unsettling or even uprooting.

The result is that in our city as in much of the rest of the country, people over 65 and those from 21 to 35 can feel disconnected – from one another, from themselves, and from the city's heritage or its future.

Beginning in late 2018, Liverpool Cares will seek to address that – to make sure older and younger people alike can feel part of our changing landscape rather than left behind by it.

Liverpool Cares is part of The Cares Family of community networks. It is based on a model successfully developed over seven years. It will benefit from the experience, infrastructure and economies of scale of that work.

But it is also uniquely Liverpudlian. The social clubsone-to-one friendships, pro-active outreach and community fundraising programmes we develop over the coming months and years to bring older and younger people together will harness the personality of this city – with laughter, sport, music and Liverpool's world famous culture at their heart.

So we need you to power that connection.

We need Liverpudlians to lead Liverpool Cares and to bring your energy to the table, and to spend time with your older neighbours to make it work. We need people in local businesses to give your time and your space to host new activities for older and younger people to share. Already, so many people are coming forward.

And, very soon, we'll need you to share our new job descriptions with your friends or to apply to help grow Liverpool Cares yourself – so that we can build this community network from the ground up.

Activities will begin in the autumn. In the meantime, we hope you'll stay in touch – by signing up through the form below to be one of our very first volunteers, by following us on Twitter or by spreading the word on Facebook.

We can't wait to get started!
