Have you been meaning to try something new in 2022? Would you like to get more involved with your community and become more familiar with the people that make up this great city? Maybe you would like to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and meet people whose paths you might not ordinarily cross. If this sounds like something you would be interested in getting involved with, our Love Your Neighbour programme might be for you! Our one-to-one friendship matching programme brings younger and older people together to share time, company and conversation.
We know that the idea of signing up to try something new like this can be daunting, especially if it’s not something you’ve done before. To give you an insight into Love Your Neighbour, we asked some of the people already involved in the programme about their experience. Here’s what they said:
"I can honestly say it brings such a wealth of fun, laughter and joy into my life. I have such a wonderful time at the social clubs and with my Love Your Neighbour match. I feel part of something bigger and a huge sense of community. You won't realise that you will benefit from the volunteering just as much as your older neighbours do."
Abby, matched with Doreen.
"Volunteering feels like a bit of a break from life in a way… It definitely has a positive impact on my life and is an hour that I look forward to each week. I don't even feel like I'm volunteering. If you're unsure or have any questions just get in touch with the Liverpool Cares team. They're super lovely and friendly and will be able to help with anything you need.”
Robyn, matched with George.
"I had no expectations before talking to Marie, I just worried about breaking the ice during our first call, but a minute into the call, we were chattering away like we'd known each other for ages. We talk about everything and amazingly, we agree on everything. She's an absolute joy and her positivity is infectious. Meeting up has been an absolute pleasure. I never think of time with her as a charity, it's a real friendship."
Tennessee, matched with Marie.
