I’ve got so many new friends and I haven’t even left the house!” (Billy, 66)

We can hardly believe that we’re approaching the end of September, after what has been a surreal summer. As we move into autumn, we’ve got an exciting programme of social clubs to get involved with throughout October. So, join us at one of our virtual or phone-in social clubs, and hang out with your older and younger neighbours while trying out something new!

October is also Black History Month, and our social clubs programme this month reflects that. We’ve taken inspiration from dance, music and movies, and we’re encouraging everybody to spend the month exploring and celebrating Black art and culture at our upcoming social clubs.

If you’d like to get involved with any of the clubs you see listed below, you can call us on 0151 659 1789.

The Cares Family Choir - Tuesday 6th October, 6:00pm - 7:00pm                  Enjoy the company of neighbours from far and wide as we get together for some joyous song with amazing choir coach Gabriella.

Dance Class - History of Black Dance - Wednesday 7th October 6:00pm - 7:00pm                                                                                                                 We've teamed up with World dance teacher Sheetal from Movema, and we’re going to be focusing on the history of Black dance. We’ll be exploring dances such as the Charleston, the Mambo, and the Merengue.

Desert Island Discs - Friday 9th October, 5:00pm - 6:30pm                               Like the radio show of its namesake, come with a song in mind and an anecdote about why it's meaningful to you. This month we’re encouraging you to talk about your favourite Black artists, so many of whom have contributed so much to music over the years.

Movies, music and memories - Monday 12th October, 2:00pm - 3:30pm     Come together with your neighbours to watch old video clips of places and people from times gone by and chat about what memories they inspire in you.

Educational workshop from Hope Not Hate - Friday 16th October, 4:00pm - 5:30pm                                                                                                                     Hope Not Hate is an organisation that tries to build inclusive communities, challenge mistrust and build hope. They will lead a fascinating workshop about inequality and how prejudice impacts people day-to-day.

Phone-in cuppa and catch up - Monday 19th October, 5:30pm - 6:30pm     Have a gab at this relaxed, chatty club. We’ll put you in small groups so you can have some good conversation over a cuppa.

Movies, music and memories - Monday 26th October, 2:00pm - 3:30pm    Come together with your neighbours to watch old video clips of places and people from times gone by and chat about what memories they inspire in you.

Cares Family Halloween Disco - Friday 30th October, 6:30pm - 7:30pm           Join us for the Cares Family disco - Halloween style. Fancy dress is actively encouraged, and there are prizes for costumes, so get creative! We’ll provide the classic spooky hits for everyone to dance along to, so join us for a truly chilling celebration.
