In this blog Development Coordinator Rachael Forde rounds up a fantastic summer of fundraising at Liverpool Cathedral. She will tell us all about the inspiring volunteers, and news friends who have raised those all important funds to support our core programmes.
Liverpool Cares is chuffed to have had so many brave and inspiring challenge fundraisers this summer. 19 of you scaled and gracefully descended our iconic Liverpool Cathedral over two weekends in August.
On the first weekend, Stephanie, Faz, Siobhan and the gang – supported by family and friends – took on the challenge. They definitely got the British weather as, by the late afternoon, the rain and wind whipped up a blustery storm around the cathedral. They would not let the elements beat them or dampen their spirits and there was plenty of smiles as a most welcomed glass of celebratory fizz was handed to them at the bottom.
Steph said “ Today was amazing yet slightly scary! Me and Faz had a fab time fundraising for the abseil.”
In a show of heart-warming support, older neighbours also braved the elements to support their younger neighbours. What’s more, ex-wedding photographer Pete captured some of the special moments which can be found here.
On the second weekend, we welcomed new friends to our fundraising team. Gill, Natasha and Jenna, three people – new to the Liverpool Cares Family – had been inspired to take on the Cathedral abseil after seeing our work on social media. Thank you for the support, we are excited to see you at some of our Social Clubs soon.
Our final abseilers of the day were Christine and John. Christine’s passion for Liverpool Cares inspired her Dad to join her to complete the abseil, and the two of them took on the 150ft drop together.
We are so grateful for the support from our abseil team, who have collectively raised a stunning £5,731 for Liverpool Cares! Thanks to each and every one of you for braving the elements to take on this unique event. We cannot wait to do it again next year!
Indeed, if you have been inspired by all our abseilers, then why not sign up to take on the challenge next summer? We have 20 spots and there are two dates you can sign up to
