August Social Clubs

To book a space or find out more about any of these clubs, call Abbie on 0151 659 1789.

Some of these clubs will have multiple 1-hour slots at each venue, speak to Abbie to find out the exact timings of each slot and book your space!

👥 Thursday 12th August, 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Outdoor dance class with Movema, Sefton Park, L17 1AP

The lovely Sheetal from local dance group Movema will be leading this outdoor dance class, which is suitable for absolute beginners. Come together for an early-evening boogie, it’s good for your body but even better for the soul!

We will be meeting outside the Palm House for this social club.

👥 Sunday 15th August, 5:45am - 12:00pm: Car boot sale fundraiser, Trinity Road, Bootle, L20 3QQ

This is going to be a brilliant day out! Join your neighbours at the crack of dawn for a trip to the famous Bootle car boot! Donate your loot and all the money we raise will go towards Liverpool Cares. Bring a car or just join one of ours, we’ll even have a game of Bargain Hunt to see who can find the best old tat.

👥 Monday 16th August, 1-hour slots between 1:00pm - 3:30pm: Quiz afternoon, Penny Lane Development Trust, 70 Penny Lane, L18 1BW

Get your thinking caps on, we’re going to have a quiz! There’ll be general knowledge, music and picture rounds, so bring yourself along and see how well you do. Winner gets a (rubbish) prize!

👥 Saturday 21st August, 1-hour slots between 12:30pm and 3:00pm: Sketching club, St John’s Gardens, St George's Place, William Brown Street, L1 1JJ

Just behind St George’s Hall, in front of the Walker Art Gallery and Central Library, come along and sketch what you can see around you in the park at this club. You don’t have to be an artist to join in, complete beginners are welcome and we will provide the pencils and paper.

👥 Sunday 22nd August, 3:00pm - 5:00pm: Baltic Triangle Litter Pick and drink, meet at Botanical Gin Garden, 49 New Bird Street, L1 0AH

We’re teaming up with local DJs “dance 4 plants” to make the popular Baltic Triangle area a tidier place for everyone to enjoy! We provide the litter pickers, gloves and bin bags, and will pair you up with a younger neighbour to gab with as you walk the streets together and clear the trash! After you’re done, we are going to an outdoor bar for a free drink to quench your thirst after your hard work.

Abbie can meet you at Liverpool One bus station if you’re not sure where the meeting point is! Just give her a call to organise this.

💻 📞 Wednesday 4th August, 6:00pm - 7:30pm: Desert island discs

Like the radio show of its namesake, come with a song in mind and the reason behind why you picked it. This month’s theme as chosen by last month’s desert island discs neighbours is ‘Places’. We want songs or artists that include place names! Think cities, countries, towns. Share your song with the group and we will play it out loud for everyone to listen to. Please have a think and let Abbie know what song you’d like so she can create the playlist ready to be DJ for the night! If you have a landline or mobile you can also join this for free - call us and ask us how if you’re interested.

📞 Tuesday 10th August, 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Cosy crossword club

Grab your phone and get comfy, we’re going to do a crossword together! This is a great way to talk to new people, have a relaxed gab about anything you fancy, and pass some time. Don’t worry if you’re rubbish at crosswords, this is a team effort. If you’ve never joined a phone-in social club before, give Abbie a call and she will answer all of your questions.

💻  Tuesday 17th August, 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Cooking demonstration

Guest chef Alex is going to cook three courses live on camera, and be there to answer all of your foodie questions. Think Liverpool Cares meets Saturday Kitchen - on a Tuesday night! Get some inspiration for tea time, you don’t have to worry about cooking along, just bring a pen and paper in case you need to write down any hints and tips and have a go in your spare time.

💻 📞 Thursday 19th August, 6:30pm - 7:30pm: The Cares Family Disco

Put on your dancing shoes and boogie the night away with neighbours from across the UK at the Cares Family disco. We provide the music, you just need to turn up and show us your moves!

💻 Monday 23rd August, 5:30pm - 6:30pm: Virtual tour of the International Slavery Museum

Today is International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, so we’re going to have a virtual tour of the slavery museum based at the Albert Dock. We will guide you through the exhibitions and try our best to answer your questions.

💻 📞 Tuesday 24th August, 6:00pm - 7:00pm: Technology workshop

If you have any tech questions, want to know how to use your gadgets and gizmos, have always wanted a spotify account so you can listen to music, want to know how youtube works, want to set up an email address, or anything else tech-related then come along to this club! We will pair you up with a volunteer who will do their best to help you out. If you’ve never been to a virtual club and want to join in over the phone give us a call, we’ll tell you how it works.
